PMing

Private Messaging, or PMing, is a good tool for talking privately with people you know. On some networks, it may be a good way to strike up a conversation with someone you don't know -- but we have found that people who PM someone they don't already know, without permission, are much more likely to be "problem chatters", and so PMing without permission is discouraged on VillageIRC in general and specifically in the Sluggy channels and #worldvillage.

In short: Please do not PM someone without their permission.

To PM someone (once you have sorted out matters of etiquette): Simply type /msg <username> <message>. So, for example, if I were to PM Wurrfing and ask him for the time, I would type something like /msg Wurrfing Hey, what's the time?. --Thorog
